From Miri To Sabah(Malaysia)

Through Brunei

Option A from Miri

Take a GRAB to the border; cross the border on foot, after the border try to take a DART (taxi) (make sure you have an esim for Brunei to be able to contact) to the Seria bus station. From there there is a single bus to BSB, but the frequency is not high (could not find clear information about that). In theory this is the cheapest option, but it can be much more expensive if you get stranded in Seria because you miss the only bus and end up having to continue with private transport. NB The blue line is the flight route around Brunei

From MIRI To BRUNEI

Variant B from Miri

We arranged a shuttle to BSB. I found the phone number on a blog after googling Miri to Brunei Transport from FM Logistics. We paid the equivalent of €78 for a ride from Miri to BSB of 160 km. We could choose our own departure time. A neat driver. Afterwards we gave him about 10% tip. See phone number and app. At the bus station they asked about €100 for a ride with departure very early in the morning.

From Brunei to Malaysia (Sabah)

Ferry via Labuan

Variant A

Initially, the intention was to take the ferry from Brunei-Seri Anna port to the island of Labuan (Malaysia) and from there a short crossing back to the mainland. It was striking that we could not book this ferry anywhere. The information was also contradictory. That would mean that we had to look on the spot whether and when this ferry would sail. Moreover, you would then go via the oil island of Labuan, which is not interesting, and for the connection to the second crossing — Labuan – Sabah — you would have to wait about 4 hours. So we decided to choose option B

Variant B (see also travel blog) >>

With a Dart (local taxi app) to the border with Brunei via the 30 km long Sultan Haij Omar bridge (1 hour). From there walk through a piece of No Man’s Land to the Malaysian side (10 minutes). After the Malaysian border order a taxi with Maxim to Lawas at 26 km. That went quickly. NB. Grab does not work here! In Lawas at the bus station you can take a (mini) bus to KK depending on the time (the earlier, the better). When we arrived after noon, the only option was private transport. Start this trip from BSB at 07.00 at the latest if you want to be able to catch a (mini) bus in Lawas
